We had a fun visit with the grandparents up in Canada on Labor Day weekend.  My daughter loves to play dress up, the frillier the dress, the better.

Letter to My Son – August 2013

Dear Son,

As summer winds to a close, I wanted to tell you how much you have grown up in these last few months! You are talking a lot more, getting bigger and getting stronger each and every day.  Pretty soon you will no longer be my baby boy and that makes me a little sad.

This was a summer full of adventure for you.  You saw Elk, bear and a fox.  Played at the zoo and went to the summer fair.  Your first year on some of the faster rides.  Your cousins came for a visit and you loved following the girls around for a while.  Until you realized they didn’t want to play cars and trucks and trains.  :)

Daddy took you for a hair cut – it’s very short now.  I miss all your hair!  Secretly we will grow it all back so those curls come out again.  But  *shhhh* …  don’t tell daddy….:)

We all went to Clear Lake for a week this month and you loved playing at the playground, eating ice cream and going for walks.  We couldn’t swim in the lake this year because of “the itch” – a bug that causes a terrible rash.  We avoided playing in the sand too, just in case. But that was OK, you really enjoyed playing around the cabin.  The last day we were there was the Park’s 80th birthday.  The day had activities like trick or treating and in the evening was an outdoor concert by Glass Tiger – which may  or may not have been mommy’s favorite 80’s band  😉  You LOVED it.  Concerts are going to be your thing, I think.

Letter to My Daughter – August 2013

Dear Daughter,

The summers are short here in ND.  And this year was no exception.  We had a long winter – it didn’t really end until mid May.  August was cooler than usual, so it felt like fall was arriving early.  It still didn’t hold us back from enjoying everything we love to do.

We camped almost every weekend.  A little bit to the south, a little bit to the north and then a little bit more to the north:)

You visited with your cousins and went to the summer fair.  You really like the rides at the fair. Especially the high, fast ones!  This year we bought you the ‘unlimited rides’ bracelet and you definitely made that purchase worth every penny.

You are enjoying meeting new friends with every new adventure. The other children we meet when camping love to play with you and are drawn to your excitement and energy.

We went to Clear Lake for a week and your favorite activity was swimming in the pool.  You were probably in the pool for 3-4 hours each day!  There was also a little playground right beside the cabin and you spent they other half of the day there:) In the evenings, after dinner, we would walk to either McTavish’s or Boardwalk to get ice cream.  And then you and your brother would be up half the night with a sugar-high.

We got lucky and were there the day of the Park’s 80th birthday, which meant a fun “Boo in the Park” trick or treating day and an outdoor concert at night.  It was our last night there and our last night camping for the summer. A fitting end to a wonderful season.

I am excited to be a part of “letters to our children” blog circle with other photographers and moms. We write monthly letters in honor of our children and hope you enjoy reading them with us. Please head over to my friend,  Jenn’s blog for her monthly letter to her son.

Project 52 – Week Twenty: “Once Upon a Time”

We kept passing this cabin when were driving to RMNP in CO and finally we had to stop so I could photograph it.  It was the perfect “Once Upon a Time” feel for me.   Nestled in the woods, on a lake made of glass.  It was approaching dusk and you could see the soft light from the fireplace or a lamp inside.

Clear Lake August 2013

We had so much fun at our annual family trip to Clear Lake this year.  It truly is my favorite place on earth.  Our families rented a ‘cabin’ and it landed up being in the perfect location.  The pool was right outside the back door, we had plenty of grass area to pull up chairs, BBQ and sit around the firepit and we were steps away from the little playground.  A short walk and we were to the little shops and ice cream place, a few minutes more and we were at the beach.  We brought our camper and stayed in the campground, which was just a 5 minute walk from the cabin – it was perfect.

The kids loved swimming and we spent every minute we could outside because the weather was darn near perfect.  To top off the week, the last day we were there was ‘Boo in the Park’ – there were games, bouncy houses, and the shops were decorated for Halloween.  In the afternoon the kids could do trick or treating, followed by an outdoor concert.  Glass Tiger – my favorite 80’s band:) And they were so awesome – still sound the same now as they did back then.  They put on a good show and the crowd was so great and fun.  The kids loved it.

Good memories were created this past week, we had a really nice time with our families and can’t wait to do it again next year!
