Letters to Our Daughters – January

Dear Daughter,

In my first letter to my daughter I want to tell the story of YOU.

When we found out we were having a baby we were so excited.  We were nervous, as first time parents often are, but we couldn’t wait to meet you.  When I felt you kick for the first time, it was amazing to think you were a little person growing inside me.  And for that little while, you would be all mine:) So I talked to you, I sang to you, I played you Mozart 😉

You were with me while I worked, slept, ate dinner and slept.  For that nine months you and I were ONE.

When we found out you were a GIRL, we were so excited.  Your daddy knew right then he would spend the rest of his life protecting you from all evil (AKA boys that came knocking at our door):) Mommy spent some time shopping for strollers, car seats, crib, bottles and all kinds of PINK.  In December, daddy, Grandpa Dennis and Papa helped put together your crib and we painted and decorated your room in chocolate brown, cream and pink.

Then, in the middle of the night at the end of January, you heralded your arrival.  We gathered up our bag, made the phone calls to grandparents and headed to the hospital.  You were pretty stubborn from the get-go 😉  You were going to come out into the world on your own terms.  You made your appearance late afternoon the next day.  You were so small and delicate.

You got to spend time with all the grandparents as they came out to visit and help one by one.

You started crawling pretty early on, then walking and finally talking by about 9 months.  Nothing was going to stop you now!  You loved creating and building and knowing how things worked.  Taking blocks apart and putting them back together.  You knew how to run an iPad before you were 2!  You still love to learn and I look forward to seeing the strong person you will become:)

“Promise me you will always remember: you’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think”.
